Rants and Raves

OK, maybe you're wondering what the H-E-double-hockey-sticks this is. I think it's time for me to cut loose about the things I think are wicked cool... as well as the things of the day that outright suck. Some Harvard scholars have a scientific name for such a book, something called a "diary."

ANYHOO, I'll be talking (loudly) about all sorts of things. Technology, TV, movies, basically everything under the sun.

Disclaimer: I'll be perfectly honest: I don't have any problems with stating my opinion. I'm a straight shooter. If you don't think so, come play Counter-Strike with me. (j/k)

All right...here we go!

"A Few Reasons Why I Hate Hotmail so Much"

E-mail was designed to be simple. I mean, you send a bunch of letters--words, paragraphs, whatever--to somebody you call your "ISP" and they in turn send it exactly the same way to your friend. It's not that hard! Come on, Hotmail! Why is it that the only messages for which I get notified about failed deliveries come from Hotmail? Today I sent something to about 10 people. Of those, two had delivery problems. Guess who their E-mail provider is. Hotmail!

BTW, I don't have Hotmail, and I don't think I'll ever open a Hotmail account for anything other than spam collection. Sorry, Microsoft.

Also, wasn't it Hotmail who first had that gaping security hole in their system? At least they fixed it...after some other people told the whole world about it first!

So is there anything I like about Hotmail? Well, there are.

  1. It's free
  2. It lets you type styled text

Does anyone else out there want to share their thoughts on Hotmail? E-mail them to me and I'll read it. I promise. :-)

Frankly, now that I'm done with college (for now) I'm very tempted to start my own information service. It's probably going to have Web site hosting, data storage, database management, Web-based E-mail, and personal portals. It has been a mental project of mine for the past two months, and if I don't get a job soon, I'm going to do it, man! Look out, MSN!

"I told you already!"

Don't you hate it when you're on a Web site, and it makes you type your username and password over and over again? I was on Earthlink's Member Support page, and I must have re-entered my info 6 times! And one more thing: why should I have to hop around to find one little thing? Earthlink, you're a good service provider, but your Web guys have to cool it with the username- and password-entering thing!
